Calcite gets its name from the Greek word “chalix” meaning lime. This is due to Calcite being the principal mineral in limestone. Calcite is extremely delicate and fragile, making it easy to scratch. The striking blue colour of Blue Calcite is due to oxidised copper impurities. The colour can range from a beautiful icy pale blue to sky blue with deeper hues.
