Rhodonite is a manganese silicate and its colour range from light pink to scarlet. The black markings that are often found within the stone are manganese oxide. Rhodonite can also sometimes appear brown due to surface oxidation.
Rhodonite was named in 1819 by a German naturalist and it is derived from the Ancient Greek word ‘rhodon’ meaning ‘rose’.
