The Cretaceous period is when Septarian Nodules formed, which is between 50 and 70 million years ago. This is around the same time the dinosaurs became extinct. Septarian has three more common colours - brown (aragonite), yellow (calcite) and grey (limestone). The name Septarian comes from the Latin word 'septum', meaning 'partition'.
