Silver Sheen Obsidian Egg #1

The silver sheen is particularly prominent on one side of the egg carving, and very striking. Layers are visible throughout the sides.

Silver Sheen Obsidian is found only in Mexico. The sparkly silver inclusions are created by water vapour - in the form of tiny bubbles -  that become trapped in the volcanic glass as it cools.

When the lava flows, tiny gas bubbles are stretched and flattened between the flow layers. This results in the beautiful shimmer that Silver Sheen Obsidian demonstrates.
